Drug Uses

Evista is indicated for use in women after menopause to treat and prevent osteoporosis. Supplemental calcium and vitamin D should be taken with Evista if there is enough calcium and vitamin D in your diet.

How Taken

Evista is available in tablets to take by mouth. Normally, the recommended dose is one 60 mg tablet taken once a day. EVISTA tablets can be taken with or without meals.

Warnings / Precautions

You can use a dose adjustment or special monitoring during treatment or you may not be able to take Evista if you all have or have had blood clots, stroke, cancer, hypertension, triglycerides ( a type of fat in the blood) or liver disease. This drug is the FDA pregnancy category X, which means that studies in animals or humans have shown birth defects, or there is evidence of fetal risk based on human experience or both. Therefore, you should not take EVISTA if you are pregnant or could become pregnant. It is not known whether this drug is excreted in breast milk. Do not take EVISTA if you are breastfeeding, unless your doctor approves.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. But if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up a missed dose.

Side Effects

Some possible side effects, hot flashes and leg cramps. Hot flashes usually appear during the first 6 months after treatment. Side effects not very common but serious Evista is blood clots in the veins. You should consult a doctor if any signs of stroke occur. Symptoms include leg pain or a feeling of warmth in the calves, swelling of the legs, hands or feet, sudden chest pain, shortness of breath or coughing up blood, sudden change in your vision such as loss of vision or blurred vision. Blood clots can be fatal or cause serious health problems. Contact your doctor if you experience side effects or have any questions.

Storage

Store this medication at room temperature of 15-30 ° C (59-86 degrees F). Keep away from children and excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom).

Overdose

There are no reports of overdose with Evista. However, if you suspect an overdose, seek medical attention immediately.

More

If you plan to have surgery (including dental), tell your doctor you are taking Evista. If you need a long period of bed rest, you may have to be found in all treatment with Evista. While under treatment with Evista, do not sit still for long. Talk to your doctor about smoking and alcohol consumption, as it may increase bone loss.
